Laurel Arnell-Cullen better known as just Laurel is a 19-year-old English indie-folk singer-songwriter. She began her musical career since she was little, trying to emulate one of her favorite stars, Laura Marling. With a guitar, the singer began composing her first songs in 2009. Early this year, she began publishing some early demos of her compositions in Soundcloud, among which: “Next Time“, “Blue Blood“, and “Mankind“.
A part of Marling, their musical influences are: Britney, Lana Del Rey, Florence Welch, and Marina and the Diamonds. Her style is a perfect blend between the named, emulating a style somewhere between alternative pop and minimal. Reminds me somehow to New Zealand singer Lorde.
This year, she signed a record deal with the same management company as Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora, and she’s ready to takeoff and start promoting her music around the world. After testing us with simply beautiful first track “The Desert“, Laurel is back with her new single entitled “Fire Breathe“. About the single she said:
“Fire Breather is based on a destructive relationship, and feeling in the shadow of the person that you love. In a way they capture you so you can’t think straight and be rational”
The music video was directed by Patrick Killingbeck, and it was premiered on her Youtube channel on December 18th.
