Chloe Howl just released her brand new video for No Strings! Gotta love this! Enjoy!
Chloe Howl – No Strings
British 17-year old Chloe Howl ‘s debut single “No Strings” doesn’t go for half-measures: the verse riff bounces like “Pumped Up Kicks” in a foul mood, the “Dance Wiv Me” synths in the chorus judder as if fulfilling repeated dares to touch an electric fence with bare hands, and Chlöe Howl – No Strings formidable, spirited sneer is as wicked as Adele ‘s voice could be if she weren’t now the official vessel for Our Nation’s Sorrow. “Don’t need to talk to each other, we got codes,” Chloe Howl sings of eyeing a familiar someone up at a party, convinced of some deeper understanding. “Have a bit too much to drink/ Say hello,” like that’s the worst that could happen when you’re 17 and you’ve got too much cheap cornershop booze in you, before resigning to the fact that the two of them are probably going home together. But then comes the brilliantly disgusted bomb-drop in a year of gross, negging boyband singles and sexual submission masquerading as come-on: “Fuck your no strings.” And worse: the sighed, “I don’t even know if I’m the right sex” is redeployed with a gimlet, accusatory eye: “You don’t even know if I’m the right sex, do ya?” Add the little New Order quote about two-thirds through: “No Strings” is unequivocally wicked.
